WHO CAN JOIN THE COURSE?

(prerequisites)

This Low Visibility Operations (LVO) course is specifically for pilots who are currently qualified or in the process of qualifying on the aircraft type and require the necessary operational authorization for CAT II and CAT III approaches.

Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Type Rating Status
    You must be a pilot (either Captain or First Officer) who holds or is currently acquiring the EMB-135/145 Type Rating and a valid Instrument Rating (IR)
  • Operational Need
    You are required by your Airline or Operator to perform Low Visibility Take-Offs (LVTO) and/or Category II (CAT II) / Category III (CAT III) Instrument Approach Operations.

WHEN CAN I START MY TRAINING?

Any time!

FSTC Europe starts the EMB-135/145 Low Visibility Operations (LVO) course any time is convenient for the Trainee Pilot. A group (of at least 2 pilots) training is much more efficient than one only individual.

Pre-arrangement is required.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE TRAINING?

LVO – Low Visibility Operation

Theoretical Training
6 hours of the EMB-135/145 LVO Theory (IN-HOUSE / INSTRUCTOR-LED) on the following topics:

  • Characteristics and limitations of the ILS and/or MLS
  • Characteristics of the visual aids
  • Characteristics of fog
  • Operational capabilities and limitations of the particular airborne system to include HUD symbology and EVS characteristics, if appropriate
  • Effects of precipitation, ice accretion, low level wind shear and turbulence;
  • Effect of specific aircraft/system malfunctions
  • Use and limitations of RVR assessment systems
  • Principles of obstacle clearance requirements
  • Recognition of and action to be taken in the event of failure of ground equipment
  • Procedures and precautions to be followed with regard to surface movement during operations when the RVR is 400 m or less and any additional procedures required for take-off in conditions below 150 m (200 m for category D aeroplanes)
  • Significance of DHs based upon radio altimeters and the effect of terrain profile in the approach area on radio altimeter readings and on the automatic approach/landing systems
  • Importance and significance of alert height, if applicable, and the action in the event of any failure above and below the alert height
  • Qualification requirements for pilots to obtain and retain approval to conduct LVOs;
  • Importance of correct seating and eye position


Practical Training
2 hours flight training on FFS Level D Simulator, as following:

  • Preparation and checks / Flight Manoeuvres / Post flight procedures
  • Low Visibility TAKE OFF / Rejected T/O and
  • Low Visibility LANDINGS / Rejected LANDINGS
